Deluxe Chess Sets is proud to offer the Collector Series Luxury Chess set. This full-tournament sized Chess set features. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 4.0" King with a 1.875"diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. The Collector Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cook in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.)

As with all of our Chessmen, the Collector Series Luxury Chess set exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton over 10 years ago.

The Chess Set comes with a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque indicating the production number, with an adhesive backing that would allow it to be affixed to the underside of a Chess box.

Note: Only the Boxwood and Genuine Ebony Collector Series Luxury Chess set comes with the King side Rooks and Knights marked with the traditional crown on their summits, a practice first introduced by Jaques of London with the original Staunton Pattern Chessmen.

The Collector Series Luxury Chess Set - 4.0 inch King is available in the following woods:

Ebonized Boxwood
WOOD DESCRIPTION: Also known as faux Ebony, Ebonized Boxwood is created when Boxwood is treated with a specialized stain to create the look of Ebony. It is perfect for those who want the classical look of a Genuine Ebony Chess set at an affordable price.

Black and Ivory Lacquered
WOOD DESCRIPTION: To create Black and Ivory Lacquered Chessmen, Boxwood pieces are painted with black lacquer or ivory Lacquer and then hand-rubbed with fine pumice stone. The result is a hard, durable water-resistant finish which has a very high gloss.

Black and Natural Lacquered

Boxwood and Rosewood
WOOD DESCRIPTION: With its dark brown color and aggressive grain patterns, Rosewood is the perfect choice for those that truly appreciate the natural beauty of wood. While most Chess sets are made from woods that have uniform coloring and minimal grain, Rosewood stands in stark contrast with its striking color variations and aggressive grain.

Boxwood and Genuine Ebony
WOOD DESCRIPTION: The most famous of the ornamental woods, Genuine Ebony is a luxurious hardwood that is a prized for its jet black color, very fine grain and overall beauty. Genuine Ebony is considered to be the quintessential Chess set by Chess collectors that appreciate the purity of the White army versus the Black army on the 64-square battlefield.

Boxwood and Blood Rosewood
WOOD DESCRIPTION: 'Beautiful', 'Exotic' and 'Striking' are just a few of the adjectives that Chess collectors use to describe Blood Rosewood. The rarest and most expensive of the hardwoods, it is characterized by its striking dark red color and subtle grain patterns. Its color is often compared to that of red wine and it is truly our most luxurious wood.
